Why it depends

Whey comes from milk, so it is low concern by default. The one link back to slaughter is the rennet used to make the cheese, which is usually microbial today. A scan does not raise whey on its own, only when something else already raises the product's risk.

How to check the pack

  • A halal mark settles it. Nothing extra is needed in an otherwise plain product.
  • Look for a recognised halal mark (JAKIM, MUI/BPJPH, MUIS or another reputable certifier) on the pack in your hand. A mark you can see settles it for the whole product.R-CERT-01
  • Still unsure? Ask the maker which source they use, or choose a certified alternative.
