HalalSnap Privacy Policy

Effective Date: January 2025 · Updated: 24 October 2026

1. Introduction

HalalSnap ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our mobile application.

2. Information We Collect

Camera Access

We request camera permission to allow you to scan product ingredients and packaging for halal verification analysis. Photos are processed locally on your device and sent securely to our analysis service.

Usage Data

We collect anonymous usage statistics to improve our app, including:

Feedback and Reports

If you send feedback from Settings, or tap "This looks wrong?" on a result, we store what you send so we can fix verdicts. A report contains your note and the reason you picked, the verdict and the ingredients we read for that scan, your school of thought, your region, your app language and version, your platform, and an anonymous device identifier. If you report a result, we may also keep the photo from that scan (see "Photos From Scans That Go Wrong" below).

Photos From Scans That Go Wrong

When a scan fails, when we cannot read the full ingredient list, or when you report a result as wrong, we may keep the photo from that scan. They are anonymous. We use them only to find out what went wrong, to fix it, and to improve the quality and accuracy of HalalSnap's answers, for example to check whether the app should have been able to read the label. They are stored privately, seen only by the HalalSnap team, never used for advertising, never sold or shared, and not linked to your name or account. We delete them automatically after 30 days. Photos from scans that work normally are not kept.

Product Information From Scans

When a scan reads a full ingredient list clearly, we keep a record of the product: its name, brand, ingredients and verdict, with the school of thought, market and language used. We use these records to improve answers and to publish anonymous totals. They contain no account, device identifier or photo.

3. How We Use Your Information

4. Data Storage and Security

5. Data Sharing

7. How to Delete Your Data

HalalSnap stores your scan history and settings locally on your device. You have complete control over deleting them:

🔹 Method 1: In-App Data Deletion

1. Open HalalSnap app
2. Go to Settings (gear icon)
3. Scroll to "App Settings" section
4. Tap "Clear All Data"
5. Confirm deletion

This removes: scan history, usage statistics, tutorial flags, language preferences

Preserved: credits and subscription status

🔹 Method 2: Complete App Removal

1. Uninstall HalalSnap from your device
2. This permanently removes ALL app data

This removes: everything including credits and subscription

Data Retention: Scan history and settings live on your device, so deleting them there is immediate and permanent. Feedback and reports you send are kept on our servers until you ask us to delete them: email privacy@halalsnap.org with roughly when you sent it. Photos kept from scans that went wrong (see section 2) are deleted automatically after 30 days. Product records (see section 2) contain nothing that identifies you.

8. Children's Privacy

Our app is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of any material changes through the app or other communication methods.
